MINISTER TUNÇ ATTENDED THE CEREMONY ORGANIZED ON THE 29TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SREBRENICA GENOCIDE
11.07.2024

MINISTER TUNÇ: GENOCIDE MUST NOT BE FORGOTTEN

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç stated that the genocide committed in Srebrenica 29 years ago must not be forgotten and said: “Just as the perpetrators of the genocide in Srebrenica were tried and convicted before the courts, the perpetrators of genocide in Palestine will one day be tried and sentenced to the necessary penalties.”

Minister Tunç attended the ceremony organized at the battery factory in Potocari for the 29th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide. Minister Tunç stated that they came with a strong delegation to commemorate the martyrs in Srebrenica and that they wanted to be with their brothers and sisters from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A MASSACRE IN THE MIDDLE OF EUROPE

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç stated that a massacre took place in Bosnia and Herzegovina between 1992-1995 in the middle of Europe and said, “Thousands of people were subjected to genocide here. More than 8 thousand Bosnians were martyred in Srebrenica. Afterward, the genocide perpetrators were punished in international courts. Around 45 genocide criminals were sentenced to nearly 700 years of imprisonment. The UN International Court of Justice decided to determine genocide based on the genocide convention.”

Stating that the United Nations (UN) General Assembly decided to declare July 11 as “Srebrenica Massacre Remembrance Day,” Minister of Justice Tunç said, “As Türkiye, we have been with our Bosnian brothers and sisters from the beginning. There is a general discussion on this issue in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Our President issued a circular on ‘July 11th, International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the Srebrenica Genocide’.”

Stating that those who were massacred in Srebrenica were buried in mass graves, Minister Tunç said that there are nearly 1000 Bosnians whose identities have not been determined.

TODAY, GENOCIDE CONTINUES IN PHILISTINE IN FRONT OF THE EYES OF THE WORLD

Stating that they will condemn the genocide once again, Minister Tunç noted that genocide is a crime against humanity.

Minister Tunç stated that they have seen how those who committed genocide are condemned in the conscience of the people as well as in international courts, and stated the following:

“Today, genocide continues in Palestine in front of the eyes of the world. In Gaza, unfortunately, we see that international organizations are unable to prevent genocide while genocide is being committed. Nearly 40 thousand people, 16 thousand of them children, were martyred in Gaza. This is happening in front of the eyes of the whole world. Just as the perpetrators of the genocide in Srebrenica were tried and convicted before the courts, the perpetrators of genocide in Palestine will one day be tried and sentenced to the necessary penalties. As the Republic of Türkiye, we always stand by our Bosnian brothers and sisters. We always express that the territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina must be respected, and we will continue to support all segments of society in living in peace and tranquility here.”

Stating that they will also visit the mothers of Srebrenica, Minister Tunç said, “The words of the late leader Aliya Izzetbegovic are really meaningful. He says, ‘Forgotten genocide is repeated again.’ Actually, this is a great message to humanity. Genocide must not be forgotten. When it is forgotten, it is repeated in Palestine and Gaza. Therefore, in the face of this crime against humanity, all states, international organizations, and courts must take the necessary stance and take the necessary action on time.”

Tunç also stated that they will convey the message of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to the relatives of the martyrs.

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç also made evaluations to TRT News within the scope of the commemoration program.
