MINISTER GÜRLEK: AS TÜRKIYE, WE ALWAYS CONTINUE TO STAND BY THE RIGHTFUL STRUGGLE OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE AND TO SUPPORT THE PALESTINIANS
Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek met with Ms. Urška Klakocar Zupancic, Speaker of the National Assembly of Slovenia. Minister Gürlek stated as follows: “As Türkiye, we continue to uphold human dignity, peace, and justice under all circumstances. We consistently stand by the rightful struggle of the Palestinian people and continue to support them.”
During the meeting held at the Ministry, Minister Gürlek welcomed the delegation led by the Speaker Klakocar Zupancic. He underlined that Türkiye and Slovenia maintain constructive cooperation in political, economic, and cultural fields, and emphasized that the friendly ties between the two countries are steadily strengthening.
Minister Gürlek highlighted that the cooperation in the field of justice constitutes an important and complementary dimension of bilateral relations. He stressed the significance of advancing collaboration within the framework of the rule of law, mutual exchange of judicial experience, legal assistance, and international conventions.
Referring to recent reforms in the legal system, Minister Gürlek stated as follows: “Under the leadership of our President, we announced the Fourth Judicial Reform Strategy Document covering the years 2025-2029, thereby implementing significant reforms in the judiciary. In this context, we submitted the Eleventh Judicial Package to the Parliament in December 2025, and our work on the Twelfth Judicial Package is ongoing. At the same time, we are considering certain amendments to the Turkish Penal Code and the enforcement system, with the aim of strengthening criminal justice and making trial and enforcement processes more effective.”
Minister Gürlek continued as follows:
“In this regard, we highly value the decision of your country, following the vote held in the Plenary of the National Assembly of Slovenia, to recognize the State of Palestine. In particular, our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has consistently expressed his pleasure with Slovenia’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine. As Türkiye, we continue to uphold human dignity, peace, and justice under all circumstances. We always stand by the rightful struggle of the Palestinian people and continue to support them. I reiterate our desire to further strengthen the friendship and judicial cooperation between our two countries. We are fully prepared to reach any consensus and to enhance our relations in the field of judicial cooperation.”
Minister Gürlek extended his gratitude to the Speaker Klakocar Zupancic for her visit.
AS OUR NATION AND OUR STATE, WE STAND IN FAVOR OF PALESTINE’S TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY
Speaker of the National Assembly of Slovenia, Ms. Urška Klakocar Zupancic, also expressed her pleasure to Minister Gürlek for hosting them.
She noted that the recognition of Palestine as an independent state in Slovenia was a decision adopted through a vote in the National Assembly, whereas in the European Union and other European countries, such decisions are generally taken by the governments. Ms. Klakocar Zupancic stated as follows: “However, we, as a country and a nation, already stand in favor of Palestine’s territorial integrity. In this context, the decision of our National Assembly in this regard is highly exemplary.”
