REPUBLIC OF TÜRKİYE MINISTRY OF JUSTICE
STATEMENT FROM MINISTER OF JUSTICE GÜRLEK ON APRIL 27 E-MEMORANDUM

MINISTER GÜRLEK: “TODAY, TÜRKIYE STANDS AS A STATE GOVERNED BY THE RULE OF LAW, NOT STEERED BY A MEMORANDUM BUT BY THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE EXPRESSED AT THE BALLOT BOX. THIS HAS BEEN MADE POSSIBLE THANKS TO THE STRONG LEADERSHIP DEMONSTRATED BY OUR PRESIDENT ON APRIL 27 AND THE STEADFAST SUPPORT OUR NOBLE NATION HAS GIVEN TO THIS WILL.”

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek stated as follows: “Today, Türkiye stands as a state governed by the rule of law, not steered by a memorandum but by the will of the people expressed at the ballot box. This has been made possible thanks to the strong leadership demonstrated by our President on April 27 and the steadfast support our noble nation has given to this will.”

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek, in a post shared on his social media account, stated that the April 27 “e-memorandum” was an attempt to intervene directly against the elected government, targeting the nation’s sovereign right and the rule of law.

Minister Gürlek emphasized that the President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s resolute stance, grounded in the will of the people, constituted a historic turning point and thwarted this attempt; and he stated as follows:

"The e‑memorandum of April 27 constituted an intervention attempt targeting the democratically elected government and directly infringing upon our nation’s sovereign right and the principle of the rule of law. The resolute stance of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, grounded in the will of the people, marked a historic turning point and successfully thwarted this attempt.

Today, Türkiye stands as a state governed by the rule of law, not one whose course is dictated by memoranda, but rather one directed by the will of the people expressed at the ballot box. This has been made possible through the strong leadership demonstrated by our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, on April 27, and the unwavering support of our noble nation for this will. This stance has gone down in history as one of the most significant turning points in the struggle against the mentality of coups and memoranda in Türkiye.

The will manifested on April 27 gained further strength through the epic resistance of our nation on July 15. As the Ministry of Justice, we remain steadfast in upholding the national will and in resolutely preventing any shadow of tutelage over our democracy; and on the anniversary of the April 27 e‑memorandum, we once again reaffirm our determination to safeguard our democracy.

On this occasion, we most emphatically declare that we stand against all forms of anti‑democratic attempts; that we shall never compromise on law, justice, or the national will; and that the eras of tutelage and coups have now been definitively left behind.”
